今年，美国大学通用申请系统（Common Application，以下简称CA系统）进行了重大改革。2016年8月1日，改革后的CA系统首次开放。申请美国大学本科的同学们，需要格外注意。
第一个重大改革：新增37所大学
目前CA系统中已包含590所美国大学，除了加州大学系统、得州大学、麻省理工学院、罗格斯大学等学校，CA系统涵盖了美国大部分学校，其中包括哈佛、耶鲁、普林斯顿在内的绝大多数本科名校。
2017秋季学期，CA系统将新增37所大学，包括贝勒大学、乔治梅森大学、印第安纳大学伯明顿分校及威斯康辛麦迪逊大学等。申请2017年美国大学本科的同学，需要首先确认一下，所申请的大学是否使用CA系统。

第二个重大改革：截止时间采用美国当地时间
以往因为时差的问题，中国留学生能比美国当地申请者多出12-14个小时的申请时间，但是从今年开始，全球各地的截止时间都将统一成美国当地时间。所以，总是喜欢截止到最后一刻行动的同学，这次要看好时间了。
第三个重大改革：填写内容有改变
1）作文题目有改变
CA系统官网已经公布了2016-2017学年美国大学本科申请作文的题目，2016-2017学年个人陈述作文题目( Essay Prompts )与过往不同的有两道，题目如下：
The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
跟改革之前的题目相比，这个题目主要是增加的第一句，强调了“lessons we take from failure” ，即你从失败中获得了怎样的教训，这些教训是如何帮助你成功的。据统计，以往超过80万申请人中有17%的申请人选择这一题目。
Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
这是个全新的题目。据统计，10%的申请人选择全新题目。
除了以上2个题目，其余的3个题目没有修改，题目如下：
Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
据CA系统统计，2015-2016年，47%的学生选择这个题目进行写作。
Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again？
据统计，选这道题的人非常少，只有4%。
Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.
据统计，有22%的申请人选择此题目。
另外，关于作文提交部分，系统中会以清单的形式直观地告诉申请者哪些学校需要提交或哪些学校不需要提交。
对于某些大学的额外写作要求，也会出现在申请表的各个位置。如此一来，系统灵活性加大，但申请难度也进一步增加了。
2）删除部分犯罪历史问题
新的系统中仍然会问学生是否犯有轻罪或重大罪行，但会删除部分细节问题。
3）改变性别认定方式
性别认定一栏，除了男性和女性两个选择外，新增空白栏，允许学生表达自己的意愿，如是否为变性人。
第四个重大改革：账号信息可长期保留
以往CA系统每年8月1日重新开放的时候，已经注册过的学生信息会被清除，学生需要重新注册。而今年与往年不同的是，在8月1日之前申请2017年入学的同学可以一直保留自己的CA帐号，申请期间的个人添加信息一直会保存，除非自己删除。这样不了解申请流程的同学，可以有足够的时间去了解，并按照要求准备材料和活动。
